Approximately 10,000 African asylum seekers work as support staff in restaurants throughout Israel. With a certification in cooking, African asylum seekers have the chance to expand their roles as support staff in the kitchen and take on greater responsibilities and leadership roles as professional cooks and top chefs at restaurants. On July 11, 2018, Israel at Heart took the lead and enrolled 4 Asylum seekers in one of the most prestigious and famous cooking schools (Danon Culinary Academy) in Israel. We know that asylum seekers are already vital contributors to Israel’s globally-recognized food culture. As their opportunities within the industry grow, their contribution will become even more recognized nationally and globally.
