The Idan Raichel's Project

We proudly organized the Idan Raichel's Project first concerts at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. We specifically chose to sponsor these concerts in order to draw attention to the unique and special character of the Ethiopian community living in Israel. Today there are over one hundred thousand Ethiopian Israeli citizens, who have embarked on a courageous journey into a new and modern world. Our featured performer The Idan Raichel's Project, catapulted onto the Israeli pop music scene just over three years ago and has won the hearts of Israeli and international audiences, garnering awards and accolades such as Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year repeatedly. The multi-platinum group, led by the dread locked 28 years old Idan Raichel, and comprised of multi ethnic and multi racial Israeli singers and musicians, represents the optimal fusion of Israel's cultures. Raichel's immensely popular appeal stems from his original pop traditional music, which incorporates samples of original Ethiopian folk music intricately woven with choruses sung in Hebrew and Amharic verses. Also featured are such diverse musical elements as Arabic-language songs, Indian chants, and traditional Jewish Yemenite hymns. Idan Raichel's Project blends World Music with a pop/rock feel. The group is highly sought-after for tours, festivals, and appearances throughout the world. They performed in prestigious venues such as the WOMAD world music festival in the UK and Singapore, the Cervantino International Festival in Mexico, and the grand Kodak Theater in Hollywood famous for the Academy Awards show, marking the first time an Israeli group ever appeared on that star-studded stage. The wonderful gospel group, Tribe of Levi, performed as the opening act on Saturday April 8th. The group derives its name from the Old Testament Judaic tribe of Israel whose responsibility it was to lead the singing, and play the musical instruments, both in worship and battle, as well as tend to the priestly duties of the temple. The Levites also carried the sacred Arc of the Covenant. Under the direction of founder and director, M. Roger Holland II and by using various musical genres, TOL, like the biblical Levites, seeks to skillfully usher God's people into His presence! Danny Coakley, a Harlemite, a graduate of St. Aloysius School, and a member of St. Aloysius Church, performed as the opening act on Sunday April 9th. Danny began singing in grade school, studied at the New York School of Music, and presented his first Fathers' Day concert at St. Aloysius Church, which had become an annual event. Since that time, he has been invited to sing in various churches and on various stages in the New York City area. In January 1989, he was invited to sing at the 369th Annual Martin Luther King Jr., Extravaganza; a real highlight in his life. In October 2001, Danny released his debut Gospel CD entitled A Dream Fulfilled, also written and produced by M. Roger Holland II, a Composer, musician, vocalist, director, producer, music minister, and educator he is truly a multi-talented well respected artist and professional.
Ivri Leader

Ivri Lider, one of the most successful and esteemed Israeli rock artists and gay activists of his generation, was on a coast-to-coast tour in the US between October 30 and November 11, 2006 performing in New York, Chicago, Michigan, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The highlight of his US tour was on November 11, 2006 at the Avalon, NYC. Ivri Lider, a 32 years old songwriter, composer, producer, actor and poet, has captured the hearts of Israelis from his debut platinum album “Melatef Umeshaker”(Caressing and Lying) released in 1997. The success of the first album was followed by the release of another three original CDs, “Yoter Tov Klum Mi Kima’at”, Better Nothing than Almost (1999), “Ha’anashim Ha’khadashim”, The New People (2002), “Ze lo Otto Davar”, It’s not the Same Thing (2005) and a Live one (2006). Out of respect to his fans, his work and himself, Lider decided to be open about his gay lifestyle, an admission that was met with much warmth and support from his fan base. In a “Haaretz” interview (08/07/06), he said that he came out publicly at age 27, just before the release of his third album “The New People” because he would “feel really pathetic releasing an album called “The New People” while hiding in the closet.” All his artistic works have been well received by the audience making him the recipient of numerous awards such as Lyricist of the Year, Male Singer of the Year, Best Male Singer and Best Live Show. Lider’s diverse talent also extends in the realms of film industry and dance. He has composed original music for the soundtracks of the internationally acclaimed films “Yossi and Jagger”, “Walk on Water”, and the “The Bubble” while his music composition for the Bat Sheva Dance Company is considered his greater achievement in this area. Ivri Lider’s tour to the US was sponsored by Israel At Heart. We hope via this project we will succeed in reaching new groups of American audiences by using music as the medium of communication.
HATIKVA 6: ISRAELI REGGAE ARTISTS:

Israel at Heart was proud to bring Hatikva 6 for their first US tour from early March to mid-April. The definition of the word "Hatikva" in Hebrew is HOPE. The four members of this Reggae band play roots & dancehall style, singing in Hebrew, French and Patois, about political, social & personal issues. The decision to call the band: Hatikva 6 was simply because it was the home address of the two family members, Omri & Shelly. During their visit to Jamaica, they discovered that "Hope" also happened to be Bob Marley's home address in Kingston (Hope rd. 56), and this funny coincidence made them understand that this band is much more than a passing episode.
Shotei Hanevua

We proudly organized the first Fools of Prophecy (Shotei Hanevua) U.S. tour. Both the band and Israel at Heart share a love and concern for Israel. We tried to reach new groups of American audiences by using music as the medium of communication. The band preformed and spoke to students about life in Israel in ten campuses, including Harvard, Yale, Maryland, Cornell, Binghamton, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Berkeley,Stanford, and San Francisco State. The Fools of Prophecy play a fusion of reggae dub, side by side with hip-hop and dance - all spiced with an Eastern Mediterranean flavor to create their own Israeli style. Their debut album released in 2000 by Helicon Records quickly reached platinum. The same year, the Fools of Prophecy won the prestigious Israeli academy award for Best Band of the Year. Their second album released earlier this year is a best seller in Israel. The Fools of Prophecy describe themselves as “six human beings, friends by flesh and soul, assembled in the Holy Land, with a mutual will and quest. Our quest is to enlighten ourselves along with our neighbors in Israel and around the globe by experiencing the power and magic of true connection between people. We are doing so by the tools we know most - words and music”.
